About this Route

A long gravel route across the vast Free State grain plains between Senekal and Vrede — the agricultural heartland of South Africa. The route follows gravel farm roads through rolling wheat, maize and soya fields under enormous Highveld skies. A few gentle koppies break the flat horizon. This is pure Free State — vast, quiet, windy and profoundly beautiful in its simplicity. A bikepacking favourite for riders wanting to cross the Highveld off-road.
