About this Route

A spectacular gravel loop around the Gariep Dam — South Africa's largest dam and a premier cycling destination on the N1 corridor. The route follows the dam perimeter on gravel reserve management roads through the Gariep Dam Nature Reserve. Massive open water views across the Orange/Gariep River, springbok herds, black wildebeest and the dramatic Karoo-meets-Free State landscape make this one of the country's most unique cycling experiences. Fierce wind is almost guaranteed.
