Experience mountain biking heaven at the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park with over a few hundred kilometres of trails on both sides of the Orange River. The famous Donkey Trail is a 38km intermediate route from De Hoop campsite to Hakkiesdoring hikers' camp. This dramatic ride takes you through a harsh landscape of rugged kloofs, craggy mountains, and rock formations that remind one of the moon. Navigate jeep tracks and original donkey trails through extreme terrain featuring giant tree aloes, curious halfmens (endemic stem succulents), quiver trees, and little succulents hugging cliff edges. Part of the Desert Knights MTB Adventure, this trail includes the challenging Maerpoort Pass with incredible views, corrugated hillsides, deep sand pockets, and rocky kopjes that create a hallucinogenic effect when ridden under full moonlight.
