Experience the harsh beauty of the Northern Cape desert at Goegap Nature Reserve, a melting pot of kokerbome (giant aloes) and halfmens trees. This largely uncharted landscape offers 35km of 4x4 tracks through semi-desert terrain with great swathes of sand, rocks, and granite boulders of the Klein Koperberge (small copper mountains). The 22km basic circular route tests your bike skills through patches of sand, gentle climbs, and a steep ascent to Carolusberg, the reserve's highest point. Additional gravel roads create route variants to avoid the harsh sections. Wildlife includes hardy zebra and klipspringer against a backdrop of desert flora. Spring visits can include the renowned Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden.
