A remote gravel ride through the flat Karoo plains around De Aar — South Africa's largest railway junction and the windiest town in the country (wind farms surround it). The route follows farm service roads across the classic open Karoo with its short scrubby vegetation, dolerite koppies and unobstructed 360° horizons. The De Aar wind farm on the route's northern flank makes for dramatic cycling scenery.
